Kala Utsav:

Kala Utsav is an initiative of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, launched in 2015, to promote arts in education, by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students in the country. Cluster wise, Regional wise and National wise competitions are organized to include performances and display of exhibits. The design of Kala Utsav helps the students explore, understand and showcase their artistic talent of practicing different art forms. This event gives students the opportunity to understand and celebrate cultural diversity at the school, district, state and national level. It not only spreads awareness among students, but also creates awareness about India's rich cultural and traditions practice among different stakeholders.

 

As an effort to mainstream students with special needs (differently abled and from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds) and celebrating their abilities, Kala Utsav is envisaged as a fully integrated platform. It provides an opportunity and favorable environment to nurture and showcase the talents of Divyang children (Children with Special Needs) and helps in making learning more expressive, creative and joyful.

 

National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 emphasizes on the promotion of arts and culture through education. The NEP states; "Indian culture and philosophy have had a strong influence on the world. These rich legacies to world heritage must not only be nurtured and preserved for posterity but also researched, enhanced, and put to new uses through our education system”.

 

The focus of Kala Utsav is on styles of traditional folk and classical art forms. One Student can participate only in one art category. The competition is among the students of class IX to XII in the categories as per specification given below:

Rangotsav

 All Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas celebrates this event with various cultural activities in the school including the cultural events of the State with which Vidyalaya is interlinked for migration. Vidyalayas conducts house-wise competitions and organizes a final show of the program with appropriate display, participation of the students and arrange the award ceremony for the students who have displayed best talent in various categories like Vocal, Music, Instrumental, Dance, Drama, Painting, Literary competitions, Theatre Activities and such other performing / fine art activities conducted during this period.

Student Band Competition

School band evokes a feeling of oneness, belonging and deep sense of pride in school children towards their school and country. The rhythm of a band rouses passion, courage and action in children and adults alike. The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education in collaboration with Ministry of Defence has proposed to conduct a National School Band Competition at all-India level for Republic Day Celebratoions, 2025.

 

The first level of the National School Band Competition shall be conducted by all the states in which JNVs will participate. This will followed by Zonal and National Level School Band Competition.

 

The competition will have 4 categories:

  1. Brass Band Girls
  2. Brass Band Boys
  3. Pipe Band Girls (‘Cymbal’ shoul not be included)
  4. Pipe Band Boys (‘Cymbal’ shoul not be included)

 

Each Band should have 25-33 participants including the Drum Major and the band can accompanied by maximum of 02 Escorts including the Band Master/Trainer. The theme of band should be patriotic and any tune based on patriotic songs (Not National Anthem), clsssical, folk etc.

 

The indicative strength :

The maximum time limit for performance shall be 10-15 minutes for each team. Wearing Band costumes is mandatory for the performance.

Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat

  • Govt. of India has designed various programmes under the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’’ (EBSB) program for fostering National Integration. MHRD is the nodal Ministry for implementation of this program. The broad objective of this initiative is to celebrate the Unity in Diversity or our Nation and to maintain and strengthen the fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds between the people of our country.

    Each JNV shall one program in a quarter under the title “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” and upload the pictures and videos of performing arts and fine arts of National Integration on the portals stated above. The program may consist of performing art of the district performed by the Migrated children or performing art of the counterpart district of the migration played by combined group. This shall be witnessed by all the children. Similar programs may also be taken up under Fine Arts.

 

The programme “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat” has been initiated to celebrate the spirit of national integration. Bhasa Sangam marks the unique symphony of languages of our country is an expression of our shared dreams, hopes and aspirations for one India.

India’s richness is marked by her cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity. In order to celebrate these unique features of our country, the Bhasha Sangam initiative under the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat ushers in a programme for schools and educational institutions to provide multilingual exposure to students in Indian languages listed in Schedule VIII of the Constitution of India. This initiative is just the beginning of a journey meant to create interest in these languages and a curiosity to learn more. It will be followed by other activities subsequently.

Objectives of Bhasha Sangam:

  1. To introduce school students to all the 22 Indian Languages of Schedule VIII of the Constitution of India.
  2. To enhance linguistic tolerance and respect, and promote national integration .

Features of Bhasha Sangam:

  1. This will be run by the State/UT Department of School Education.
  2. A short dialogue consisting of five simple, commonly used sentences has been designed in 22 languages for use by students of all classes. The translations in Roman and Devanagari scripts have been simplified for use by children.
  3. Sentences from each language are to be shared with students everyday for 22 working days. Everyday only one language will be shared.

 

 

Seema Darshan

 An initiative by the Ministry of Human Resource Development to provide an opportunity for the children to experience the border environment and to foster patriotism and nationalism among the students.

‘Seema Darshan’ is a unique initiative being taken up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, in which school children visit the border areas of our country and present before our soldiers and troops an array of performances showcasing the tradition and culture of our country through traditional songs and dances.

This kind of programme will not only inspire children but also boost the morale of our soldiers.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Home Affairs organise ’Seema Darshan’ programme for students.

 The main objective of the programme is to provide the students with a first-hand experience of the prevailing security environment in the border areas. The other objectives are to foster patriotism and nationalism among the students and to provide an opportunity for the children to experience the border environment.
