Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti

( An Autonomous Body Under MHRD ) Government Of India

1. National Games and Sports MEET

NVS organized its 29th Cluster/Regional /National Games and Sports Meet 2018-19  in JNVs across the country.  NVS students participated in the 19 events. Sports /Games Meets are organized at three different levels in each region, namely Cluster Meet, Regional Meet and National Meet.  The selected team will participate in the 64th  SGFI Meet.

NCC IN JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYAS

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has been organizing NCC activities in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas with the motto “Unity and Discipline” with the support of NCC Directorate. It aims at:

  • Developing qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and the ideas of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens.
  • Creating a human resource of organized, trained and sensitized youth to provide leadership in all walks of life including the armed forces and to readily volunteer and dedicate themselves on the altar of National service.

NCC is being introduced in JNVs in a phased manner. As on date, Samiti has total cadet strength of 20919 in 409 JNVs. As a part of NCC training, NCC Cadets of JNVs attended several NCC camps and enriched themselves. NCC Diwas, Quami Ekta Diwas are celebrated by our cadets. Activities like Shramdan and Community Programmes are conducted for personality development of students.

Adventure Activities conducted through NCC

(A) Rifle Shooting: JNV students get training in Rifle Shooting under the watchful eyes of trained NCC officials. Apart from familiarising themselves in the use of weapons which would stand them in good stead for careers in the armed forces, Rifle Shooting helps them to understand the merits of concentration, poise, the importance of speed coupled with accuracy and of course the thrill and excitement behind such activities.

(B) Camping : NCC authorities usually organise camps throughout the country where JNV students get training for trekking, Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Swimming, Marshal Arts, Judo etc.

SCOUTS & GUIDES ACTIVITIES

The mission of scouting is to contribute to the education of young people through a value system based on the “Scout Promise and Law” to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society. Scout & Guide units are separate although they have some activities in common, such as Jamborees, rallies and conferences. Differently abled children also participate in the Scouting programme. Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is recognized as a state for Scouts & Guides activities under the Bharat Scouts & Guides. Various activities are being conducted in the Vidyalayas to imbibe the children the philosophy of the Scout and Guide movement. As on 31.03.2019, Samiti has total 17776 Scouts and 17628 Guides strength in JNVs.

MUSEUM CORNER

Under this programme the JNV students are facilitated to visualize the cultural heritage and strengthen universal values. Here students can understand about their national, historical, social, cultural and political developments; a section of which is devoted to local art and artefacts displaying the cultural and social facets indigenous to that place. Assistance @ Rs 10,000/- per year is given to the JNVs to establish and maintain the same for the benefit of the students.

MULTI GYMS

Multi Gym facility is provided to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas to develop fitness, physical and neuro-muscular skills and to promote the spirit of co-operation and sportsmanship. 

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

NSS activities have been started in NVS with the help of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. NSS is a noble experiment in academic extension. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among the students and teachers through sustained community interaction and brings our academic institutions closer to the society. Its motto, “Not Me But You,” encompasses knowledge (Academics) with action (Community Service) by way of regular activities and special programmes especially in rural areas.

ADOLESCENCE EDUCATION PROGRAMME

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has been implementing Adolescence Education Programme(AEP) since 2005, in collaboration with UNFPA/NCERT and MHRD. The programme focuses on life skill education and provides factual information to adolescent students and encourages peer education on leadership qualities, self assessment, gender equality etc. The AEP programme, which was already initiated during 2010-2012 was further expanded to all Regional Offices across the country covering JNVs of various states. The JNVs are also providing counselling services to adolescent students through trained staff nurses and school support team comprising house master/mistress, who are trained under ’Well being’ programme. The ’Wellbeing’ programme focuses on basic counselling skills like problem solving and methods and applications of problem solving skills. Various skill based training programmes have been conducted for the teachers, Peer Educators, Principals, Staff Nurses and Regional & Hqrs. Officers

Navodaya students are fruitfully engaged for carrying out various activities during their stay from Class-VI to XII. Summary of the experiences of the Navodaya student in the Life cycle of 7 years through various activities performing activities is given below:

NATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR COMMUNAL HARMONY (NFCH)

National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH), is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, is undertaking programmes and projects for providing assistance and care to families affected by terrorist, communal caste, ethnic and any other form of societal violence. NCFH also focuses on rehabilitation and education of children and/or vocational training to help them to assimilate into the main stream of society. NVS in collaboration with NFCH organized the following competitions at various levels in NVS :-

  1. Essay Writing Competition for Seniors (IX to XII)
  2. Story Writing Competition for Juniors (VI to VIII)
  3. Painting Competition for Seniors (IX to XII)
  4. Painting Competition for Juniors (VI to VIII)

These competitions are conducted at four levels i.e. Vidyalaya Level, Cluster Level, Regional Level and National Level and awards are provided only for cluster/regional and National level winners by NFCH whereas for school level winners certificates are provided by NFCH.

Swachhata Campaign

Swachhata campaign in all the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas have been carried out. Special Committee constituted at Cluster Level assessed the implementation of Swachhata in 72 items under major 6 heads of Swachhata activities. Accordingly, following 6 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas among 595 have been selected as best JNVs in implementing SwachhataAbhiyan :

PESTALOZZI

Pestalozzi International Village, a charity in England offers International Baccalaureate Diploma at Hastings College of Art & Technology for NVS students as scholarship. As on date we have sent 33 students of JNVs to England under this programme, who are getting modern and quality education, mostly free of cost by getting scholarships to embark on careers in different professions in countries like Germany, France, Britain, Spain, America etc.

  • Pestalozzi and the Partner wish to work together in India to select and recruit students who meet the Student Selection Criteria.
  • This MoU is intended to outline the relationship between Pestalozzi and the Partner so that each of the parties understands what is expected of them.
  • This MoU does not create a legal partnership between the Partner and Pestalozzi.
  • Pestalozzi may use more than one partner in India and the appointment of a Partner shall not restrict

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)

National Talent Search Scheme, started in the year 1963, is a flagship programme/initiative of NCERT. The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national level scholarship program (Exam), conducted by National Council of Educational Research and Training to recognize and nurture talented students across India. The qualified students are extended financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship for the entire academic career. The NTSE scholar is always recognized as an extra ordinary student because the NTSE itself is widely regarded as the most prestigious examination at high school level in India. Children appearing in Class X are eligible to appear for the exam.

 

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVYP)

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVYP) is an on-going National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to attract exceptional & highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science.

The objective of the program is to identify students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in Science, and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.

Regional Science Congress

The main objective of Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme is to provide quality education to the children predominantly from rural areas. NVS has been making a series of efforts for the quality improvement in the vidyalayas, based on abilities and potential of the children for creativity, innovation, research, questioning, critical thinking and analysis. It is in this context that there is a need to organize Regional Science Congress with exhaustive activities to inculcate scientific temper and promote scientific talent amongst the students of JNVs.

The objectives and methodologies of the organization of Regional Level Science Congress are indicated below:

Objectives of the Programme

  1. To provide a forum for young talented students to arouse and pursue their natural curiosity and to quench their thirst for creativity by watching and doing experiments.
  2. To help students meet eminent scientists and derive inspiration through close interactions with them.
  3. To nurture and nourish creativity and innovativeness by helping them giving knowledge and solve problems by relating their learning process to physical and social environment around them.
  4. To promote an opportunity to bright students to go beyond the limits of the school, to visit labs of national and international standards to further stimulate their temperament and help them observe to collect data, analyze and arrive at certain findings.
  5. To prepare the young generation to face challenges by encouraging the development of experimental and investigative skills and help them to become scientists for the future.
  6. To acquaint themselves with the latest happenings in the realm of Science & Technology.
  7. Paper presentation of great innovations and discoveries and on lives of great scientists.
