Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Durgapur was established in the year 2003 in accordance with the National Policy of Education 1986. JNVs are fully residential, co-educational schools affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi having classes from VIth to XIIth standard. These Vidyalayas are managed by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous body under the HRD Ministry, Govt. of India. Each Vidyalay is locally monitored by a committee chaired by the District Collector/District Magistrate. Our students are predominantly from rural areas and there is 30% reservation for girls. Quality modern education with a strong component of culture promotion of National Integration through migration of students between Hindi Speaking and Non Hindi Speaking states are the salient features of Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme. The JNV at Durgapur is at the fore front of educational excellence with excellent academic results, as well as, commendable achievements in the field of sports and cultural persuits and functioning as a pace setting institution in the district. Residential components is equally well looked after. Admission to JNVs is by means of competitive called JNV Selection Test (JNVST) for entry to class VI. The need for website necessitated, as it being the ideal platform for us to disseminate information about the Vidyalaya for the parents of our current students , as well as prospective student. Also, serving as a medium to maintain the bond with the previous pass out batches of our Vidyalaya.
