MESSAGE
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), a co-educational residential set-up under the umbrella of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is an initiative of (L) Shri Rajiv Gandhi, ex-Prime Minister of India who envisioned the need of providing free and quality education to the underprivileged rural talented students. Navodaya Vidyalayas has emerged as one of the most successful scheme of the Government of India under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The JNVs are set up in each and every district across the country except in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Having established in the year 1987, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Regional Office, Shillong presently hosts as many as 91 JNVs across each and every district in the North East including the state of Sikkim. The academic excellence offered by the Navodaya Vidyalaya draws the attention of the rural masses where the registration statistics is appealing. Students enrolled in this organisation have to pass through a transparent admission process i.e., JNV Selection Test. The organisation is equipped with qualified faculty and is affiliated to the CBSE curriculum. As the JNVs are a residential set up, the faculty works round the clock to ensure academic excellence, safety and security to the students. It also provides a holistic approach to help shape the minds of the young students, engage the students in different co-curricular activities and in the field of sports. Though this Region has its challenges in terms of topography, infrastructure and first generation learners, yet the organisation strives hard to mark its importance at the National level.
The young students of this Region have the potential to excel. I strongly believe that this Region can flourish and produce many eminent personalities in every field who will contribute for the well being of the country and this can be achieved only through the collective efforts of our stakeholders. I look forward to a good-coordination with the District Administration, co-operation of the staff and students and most importantly, active participation of the public in shaping the JNVs to its grandeur.
