Enrolment Policy

INTRODUCTION

In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986), Government of India started JNVs. Presently the JNVs are spread in 27 states and 08 Union Territories. These are co- educational resedential schools fully financed and admistered by Governemnt of India through an autonomous organization. Admissions in JNVs are made through the JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA SELECTION TEST (JNVST) to class VI and LATERAL ENTRY SELECTION TEST (LEST) to class IX and XI. 

Objective of the scheme 

1. To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture , inculcation of values, awareness of the environment ,adventure activities and physical education to the talented children predominantly from rural areas.

2. To ensure that students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages.

3. To promote national integration through migration of students from Hindi to Non Hindi speaking State and Vice versa

4. To serve in each district as focal point for improvement in quality of school education in general through sharing of experiences and facilities.

Eligibility Conditions and Composition of the Test

Eligibility Conditions

For All Candidates

 (a) Admission of candidate to class VI in a JNV is district specific. A candidate who is studying class V in a district is allowed to apply for admission to JNV in the same district only. Only the bonafide resident candidates from the district concerned where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been located and studying class V in the same district are eligible to apply for admission. The valid residential proof as notified by Govt. of India of the  parent of  the  same district where  the  candidate  has studied class V and appeared for the JNVST is to be submitted by the provisionally selected candidate at the time of However, if the district where JNV is opened is bifurcated at a later date, the old boundaries of the district are considered for the purpose of eligibility for admission into JNVST, in case a new Vidyalaya is not opened in the newly bifurcated district yet. 

    • (b) Candidate has to reside in the district where he/she is seeking admission in the JNV located in the same District. Bonafide residence certificate of the parent is to be submitted at the time of verification of documents after the provisional
    • (c) Candidate has to study class V in any of the Govt. or Govt. recognized schools located in the same District.
    • Candidates who have passed class V before the session  or repeated candidates are not allowed. NVS has the right to compare the application data of previous year(s) to identify the repeater If noticed, such candidates will not be allowed to appear for JNVST.
  • (d) A candidate seeking admission must  have been born as per date given in the prospectus. The provisionally selected candidate has to produce a copy of the birth certificate issued by Government authority concerned at the time of admission. This will apply to candidates of all categories, including those who belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC). In case of doubtful cases of overage in comparison to the age recorded in the certificate, they may be referred to the Medical Board for confirmation of the The decision of the medical board will be treated as final.
  • (e) A candidate appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class-V for the whole of the academic session in a Government/Government aided or other recognized schools or ‘B’ certificate competency course of National Institute  of  Open  Schooling  in  the  same  district  where  he/she  is seeking The candidate who has not been promoted and admitted to class V before 31st July  is not eligible to apply. The candidate who has already passed/studied class V in previous academic sessions is not eligible to appear in the selection test. A school will be deemed recognized, if it is declared so by the Government or by any other agency authorized on behalf of Government. Schools where students have obtained  ‘B’ certificate  under  National  Institute  of  Open  Schooling  should have accreditation of NIOS. A candidate must successfully complete Class- V during  the session . Actual  admission in Class-VI  during  the session  will be subject to the mentioned condition.
  • (f) A candidate seeking admission to class VI must have studied and passed classes III, IV and V from a Govt. /Govt. aided/ recognized school spending one full academic session in each
  • (g) Candidates passing  ‘B’ certificate  competency  course  of  National  Institute of Open Schooling on or before15th September  are also eligible to write admission test provided, they are in the prescribed age group. The students studying under the above scheme and residing in Urban and notified area are not eligible for obtaining seat in rural The Rural/Urban status in r/o NIOS candidates will be decided on the basis of location of residence of the parent/candidate.

 

  • (h) No candidate is eligible to apply for the selection test for the second time, under any Particulars filled by the candidate in the application form will be validated & if the candidate is found repeater, he/she will not be allowed to appear in the selection test. Admit card for such candidates will not be released.
  • (i)Under purview of section 4(4)(b)(ii) of Aadhaar act for which Ministry of Electronics  &   Information   Technology   (MeitY)   has   notified   the   Aadhaar Authentication     for     Good     Governance     (Social     Welfare,     Innovation, Knowledge) Rules, 2020 on 05-08-2020 and in pursuance of section 7 of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 (18 of 2016), a child who desires admission under the scheme shall be required to furnish proof of possession of the Aadhaar number or undergo Aadhaar authentication. Necessary notifications in respect of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti have already been released by the respective Ministry. Any child who desires admission under the scheme, who does not possess the Aadhaar Number or has not yet enrolled for Aadhaar, shall be required to make application for   Aadhaar   Enrolment subject to the consent of his/her parents or guardians before registering for the scheme, provided that he/she is entitled to obtain Aadhaar as per section 3 of the said Act and such children shall visit any Aadhaar Enrolment centre  (list available at UIDAI website: www.uidai.gov.in) to  get enrolled for The JNVs are also having facility to register for Aadhaar Enrolment. This facility may be used for Aadhaar enrolment with necessary documents by the candidates. Data of the candidate/Parent will be validated using Aadhaar number with the Government portal. All personal details submitted by the candidate/ parents should match with particulars of Aadhaar and if required, the candidates should get details updated in Aadhaar.

Till the time Aadhaar number is assigned to the child, he/she may register himself/herself after uploading the residence Certificate of parent issued by the competent Government Authority concerned. However, his/her registration will be treated as provisional and he/she has to submit the copy of Aadhaar Card at the time of selection test & admission, if provisionally selected. This will ensure that eligible candidates get admission in a JNV which provides all facilities including quality education and board and lodging free of cost.

Reservation for Rural, SC/ST, Girls & Disabled Children

  1.   At least 75% of the seats in a district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas and remaining seats will be filled up from the urban areas of the district.
  2.  Reservation of seats for SC and ST candidates is provided  in proportion to their population in the district  concerned provided that in no district, such reservation will be  less than the national average.
  3. 27% reservation shall be provided to the OBC students as per central list.
  4.   1/3 of the seats are reserved for girl students.
  5. Rural -open seats are allocated block wise on the basis of Rural population.
  6.   There is a provision for reservation for Divyang children (i.e. Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped) as per GOI

Composition of the test

The medium of the Test (JNVST) will be in any language out of 21 languages as notified.

In order to optimally utilise the infrastructure and staff facilities available in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, vacant seats in Class-IX are filled up through Lateral Entry Test. During the year 2016-17, Lateral Entry Test for Class-IX was conducted in 550 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

Eligibility Conditions

To appear in the Selection Test, a candidate has to fulfill the following eligibility conditions :

  • Only those candidates who have studied in Class-VIII in one of the Govt./Govt. recognised schools of the district where the JNV is functioning can seek admission in Class-IX.
  • A candidate seeking admission must be between the age group 13-16 years on 1st May of the year of admission for which the Selection Test is conducted. This is applicable to all categories of candidates including those who belong to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
  • The medium of Language for the Examination is English/Hindi.

 

Composition of Test for Class-IX

Admission Test consists of questions of Class-VIII standard in the following subjects.

The test is conducted in objective/descriptive of type 3 hours duration without any break.

Centre for JNVST Class-IX

The Centre for the JNVST Class-IX Examination is Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the respective district.

Reservation

The existing vacant seats in the SC/ST category, as notified, are reserved for the SC/ST students.

LATERAL ENTRY FOR CLASS-XI

Issue of Notification for Admission in Class-XI

The vacant seats available in each JNV is notified every year in the local newspapers by the JNV concerned of that district. The admission in Class–XI is completed by 15th July every year.

Eligibility for Admission in Class-XI

  • Students seeking admission in Class–XI should be within the age limit of 14-18 years as on 1st July, of the year of admission.
  • The candidate must have passed Class–X from a recognized school (affiliated to CBSE or any other State Education Board) of the district where the JNV is located during the academic session of the year of admission.
  • The merit list will be prepared as per marks obtained by the applicant in the Class–X Board Exam and the admission will be given as per eligibility of candidate and the seats available in the JNV concerned.
  • The candidates must have reasonable competency in English and Hindi.
