Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sahibganj was sanctioned in the year 1994 but it became functional in July 1995 at Barhet, approximately 60 kms away from the district headquarter. Later on, with kind support of the district administration the Vidyalaya was shifted from Barhet to Sahibganj in November 1997 near Sidhu Kanhu Stadium. The Vidyalaya remained functional up to January 2013 at its temporary site. In February 2013 the Vidyalaya was finally shifted to its permanent building although a lot of infrastructural development works were incomplete. Since then the Vidyalaya has been running at its permanent building which is about 1/2 km away from Sahibganj bus stand and 2-3 kms from Sahibganj Railway Station. District Collector office is hardly 2 kms. away from the Vidyalaya. The surrounding of the Vidyalaya creates a beautiful scenery. The hills to the north of the Vidyalaya are full of greenery and during rainy season, seems to be very fascinating. In short the Vidyalaya is situated in the lap of Nature. At the walking distance of the Vidyalaya there is a beautiful park “Ganga Vihar” which is a centre of attraction for the people of Sahibganj.
At present the Vidyalaya is having classes from class VI to XII. From class VI to X there are two sections in each class, while in class XI & XII there is Science Stream only. The Vidyalaya has a well experienced, hardworking and dedicated team of staffs. All work together not only for the academic excellence of the children but also for their alround development. I am sure that with their collective efforts and hardwork, the Vidyalaya will make long stride to grow as a pace-setting institution of the district.
