In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986), Govt. of India started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya all over the country. These are co-educational and residential schools fully financed by the Govt. of India and run by an autonomous organization called Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti under the Ministry of Human Resources Development.
Objectives of the Scheme
To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education of talented children from rural areas without regard to their family"s socio-economic condition.
To ensure that students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages as envisaged in Three Language Formula.
To serve in each district as focal point for improvement of quality of school education in general through sharing of facilities and experiences.The establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in each District has heralded a new era in the history of Indian School Education especially due to the residential system on the line of Modern Public School.The main objectives of these Vidyalayas are:
a. To promote National Integration through a specific programme of education.
b. To nurture talent particularly in the rural areas and in the weaker sections of the society.
c. To provide quality education to the talented children in the villages.
d. To establish institutions of high quality at District Level as pace setters.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. The track record of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti since its inception in 1986 has set impressive milestones in the field of education in rural India. The Vidyalayas are residential co-educational and fully financed by the Govt. of India and function through an autonomous organization called the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Khordha was started in Chuda during the year 2003-04. From the academic session 2009-10, the institution has been functioning at the permanent site at Gurujanga, Khurda.
Khurda, once upon a time was the Kingdom of the Kalinga dynasty, is famous for its heroism, the Paik rebellion and the architectural beauty. The history of Khurda is linked with the history of Kalinga. Presently it is the headquarter of Khurda district , situated in 85 degree 37" 30" E and 19 degree 40" to 20 degree 25" N and 20 KM from the capital city of Bhubaneswar on the National Highway No 5.
