वर्ष 1987 में किन्नौर (HP) जिले में पेक में एक युवा और होनहार राष्ट्रीय स्तर के संस्थान की शुरुआत हुई। विद्यालय स्नो क्लैड पहाड़ों से घिरा हुआ एक चित्रमय वातावरण में स्थित है। यह समुद्र तल से 8000 फीट की औसत ऊंचाई पर स्थित है। विद्यालय "हार्ड स्टेशन श्रेणी" के अंतर्गत आता है और इसे "चरम शीतकालीन क्षेत्र विद्यालय" के रूप में वर्गीकृत किया गया है। यह शिमला से 245 किलोमीटर दूर है और केवल रोड द्वारा अच्छी तरह से जुड़ा हुआ है। चूंकि यह जिला मुख्यालय में स्थित है। रेकॉन्ग पियो इसलिए आवंटित भूमि क्षेत्र बहुत कम है यानी 15.10 बीघा। वर्तमान में इसे अस्थाई टिन शेड में चलाया जा रहा है। स्थायी भवन बन रहा है ... किन्नौर भगवानों की भूमि है। लोगों में गहरी आस्था है और भगवान भयभीत हैं.. यह कई जलविद्युत परियोजनाओं की भूमि भी है..वर वर्षों से इस विद्यालय ने पूर्व छात्रों की एक अच्छी श्रृंखला का उत्पादन किया है।
