Youth Parliament

The Youth Parliament program in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) schools is a unique initiative aimed at fostering democratic values, leadership skills, and awareness of parliamentary procedures among students. It provides a platform for young minds to understand and participate in the workings of a democratic government, similar to how the Indian Parliament operates.

Key Objectives:

  1. Developing Leadership and Public Speaking Skills: It encourages students to take on leadership roles, present their ideas confidently, and debate on national and local issues.
  2. Understanding Parliamentary Procedures: Students learn about the structure and functioning of the Indian Parliament, including the roles of various officials, the process of passing bills, and parliamentary decorum.
  3. Promoting Awareness of Social and Political Issues: Students engage in discussions on important social, political, and economic issues, helping them become more informed citizens.
  4. Instilling Democratic Values: The Youth Parliament fosters respect for democratic institutions, freedom of speech, and the importance of constructive debate.

How It Works:

  • Simulation of a Parliamentary Session: Students take on roles like the Speaker, Prime Minister, Ministers, and Opposition members. They present and debate motions, ask questions, and participate in discussions on various topics.
  • Debates and Discussions: Participants engage in debates on national and international issues, propose new laws, and suggest improvements in existing policies.
  • Evaluation: Teachers and external evaluators assess the performance of students based on their knowledge of the subject, presentation, and adherence to parliamentary procedures.

The Youth Parliament is often conducted as a part of extracurricular activities in JNV schools and is a tool for nurturing future leaders and responsible citizens.
