Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sonitpur was established in year 1994. It was started in the Diet - the temporary site. It was shifted to the new building at permanent site in 2000. The permanent site is situated in Kadamoni village, Biswanath Chariali - back side of the Biswanath college of Agriculture in an area of 30 Acres of land. The founder Principal was Mr.K.K. BARUAH (02.03.95-31.07.95). The total tentative strength at full strenght is around 530. At +2 level there are Science & Humanities streams. The students here have been divided in four houses-Aravali, Nilgiri, Shivalik & Udaigiri and are looked after by eight House Masters and two House Mistresses. The Vidyalaya has Scout & Guide, a Band group and also NCC. All eight labs-Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Geography, Computer Science, Junior Science and Junior Maths - are well equipped. The Vidyalaya Library has more than 8000 books for students & staff of the Vidyalaya. Its functioning aims at maximum utilization of Library books. The Games and Sports department is very rich for facilitating students. Every year more than 30-35 students play at National level and 08-10 get selected to play SGFI level. Pace-setting, Coaching Camps and tuurnaments are organized every year regularly.
