Greetings from the Principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Aglar, Shopian!

As a premier institution of school education in the region, JNV Aglar offers its students a unique blend of modern education and moral values. The Vidyalaya is guided in its mission of making a significant contribution in the lives of its students, their families and scociety at large.

JNV Aglar was inaugurated by His Excellency Sh. Jagmohan Malhotra, the then Honrable Governor of Jammu & Kashmir State in October 1986. Despite being the oldest JNV in Kashmir valley and one of the oldest in India, the Vidyalya had to bear with the lack of permanent infrastructure until last academic session (2021-22). The unfortunate incident of arsoning of Vidyalaya in 1992, the frequent shutdowns owing to turmoil in the area were also among some major setbacks the Vidyalaya had to face since its inception. However, despite these challenges the Vidyalaya kept running with pride and performed all basic and important functions at par with other JNVs in the country.

The speedy construction of permanent buildings going on at present the Vidyalaya is all set to provide excellent infrastructure to satisfy the scholastic, co-scholastic and residential demands of its students, teachers & other staff. In addition to its high academic standards, the Vidyalaya has a thriving heritage of extracurricular activities. Our students balance their academic pursuits with participation in sports, debate, music, visual arts, Youth Parliament, etc. A well-stocked Library, two Smart Classrooms, a Smart Lab, a Computer Lab and Tablets are among some most-important resources in the Vidyalaya.

I am blessed to be a member of the JNV Aglar family, which continues to support me in my attempts to set the bar for our success. Our institutional machinery is supported by a devoted team of teachers and non-teaching employees. I see myself as an administrator and a friend who aids in the overall development of the Vidyalaya's pupils.
