Enrolment Policy

Admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is made on the basis of a Selection Test, designed and conducted by the CBSE. The test is called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). It is of non-verbal nature, class-neutral and designed so as to ensure that talented children from rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantage. Special care is taken to ensure that children from far flung areas get admission forms free of cost, without any difficulty. Sufficient publicity is done through Doordarshan, All India Radio, local newspapers, pamphlets, Vidyalaya websites and through visits of Principals and teachers of Navodaya Vidyalayas to the local schools of the district.

About selection procedure in class 6th :

  • Admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, (Raisen) is made through JNVST Selection Test as per guidelines given by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), New Delhi, at class 6th level. Students seeking admission and would like to appear JNVST may opt for English or Hindi as a medium of entrance test, while submitting application form. The medium of instruction in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (Raisen) is the mother tongue or Regional Language up to class 8th and English thereafter for Maths and Science and Hindi in Social Science. Students admitted in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (Raisen) appear for 10th and 12th class examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi.
  • A maximum of eighty (80) students are admitted in class 6th subject to availability of suitable candidates since the test is conducted by the NVS in collaboration with CBSE, New Delhi. The Samiti (NVS) reserves the rights to reduce the seats to forty or to withhold result and/ or withhold admission and/ or conduct of JNVST in case adequate accommodation is not available
  • In case of any dispute, the decision of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti shall be final and binding on the candidate.
  • Marks obtained by candidates (both selected and non-selected candidates) in the test are not communicated.
  • It may also be noted by the candidate and parents that under the scheme of JNVs, students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya located in Hindi Speaking state may have to be migrated to another Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Non-Hindi speaking state and vice-versa for one academic year when the students are promoted form class 8th to class 9th. In case of refusal from the student (s) selected for migration, continuation of such students in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Raisen will not be allowed.
  • It may also be noted by the candidate and parents that under the scheme of JNVs, students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya located in Hindi Speaking state may have to be migrated to another Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Non-Hindi speaking state and vice-versa for one academic year when the students are promoted form class 8th to class 9th. In case of refusal from the student (s) selected for migration, continuation of such students in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Raisen will not be allowed.
  • The candidate and their parents/guardians may note that the children selected on the basis of selection test will be admitted only, in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Raisen, who belong to the DISTRICT only. Under no circumstances the selected candidate will be given admission to any other Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.
  • No shifting of students on account of medium of instruction in the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Raisen/ shifting of parents/guardians to other District / State etc. will be entertained.

Reservation for Rural, SC/ST, Girls & Disabled Children

  •   At least 75% of the seats in a district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas and remaining seats will be filled up from the urban areas of the district.
  •   There is a provision for reservation of seats for SC and ST candidates in proportion to their population in the district but not less than the national average
  •   1/3 of the seats are reserved for girl students.
  •   There is a provision for reservation of 3% seats for disabled children (i.e. Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped).

Composition of the test

The medium of the Test (JNVST) will be in any language out of 21 languages as notified.

  • About selection test in class 9th

  • Introduction :   In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986), Government of India started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) all over the country except Tamil Nadu. These are co-educational, residential schools, fully financed by Government of India and run by an autonomous organization, Navodaya Vidyalaya, under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Though admission to these Vidyalayas is at Class VI level, in order to optimally utilize infrastructure facilities available, vacant seats at Class IX level are filled through an All India level Selection Test. While education in the schools is free including boarding, lodging, uniforms and textbooks, a nominal fee of Rs.200/- per month will have to be collected from the children from IX to XII Class. However, children belonging to SC/ST, Girls and from the families whose income is below poverty line are exempted from payment of fees.
  • OBJECTIVE OF THE SCHEME :

    To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children from rural areas without regard to their family’s socio-economic condition.  To ensure that students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages as envisaged in Three Language Formula.To serve in each district as focal point for improvement of quality of school education in general through sharing of experiences and facilities.

      

    ADMISSION TO IX CLASS AGAINST VACANT SEATS :  In order to optimally utilize the infrastructure and facilities available in these Vidyalayas, it has been decided by the Samiti to fill the vacant seats in IX class through an All India level Selection Test. The district-wise vacant seats in the Vidyalayas are separately notified in local newspapers                                                              

  • Composition of Test for Class-IX

Admission Test consists of questions of Class-VIII standard in the following subjects.

The test is conducted in objective/descriptive of type 3 hours duration without any break.

Centre for JNVST Class-IX

The Centre for the JNVST Class-IX Examination is Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the respective district.

Reservation

The existing vacant seats in the SC/ST category, as notified, are reserved for the SC/ST students.

LATERAL ENTRY FOR CLASS-XI

Issue of Notification for Admission in Class-XI

The vacant seats available in each JNV is notified every year in the local newspapers by the JNV concerned of that district. The admission in Class–XI is completed by 15th July every year.

Eligibility for Admission in Class-XI

  • Students seeking admission in Class–XI should be within the age limit of 14-18 years as on 1st July, of the year of admission.
  • The candidate must have passed Class–X from a recognized school (affiliated to CBSE or any other State Education Board) of the district where the JNV is located during the academic session of the year of admission.
  • The merit list will be prepared as per marks obtained by the applicant in the Class–X Board Exam and the admission will be given as per eligibility of candidate and the seats available in the JNV concerned.
  • The candidates must have reasonable competency in English and Hindi.
