Enrolment Policy

Admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is made on the basis of a Selection Test, designed and conducted by the CBSE. The test is called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). It is of non-verbal nature, class-neutral and designed so as to ensure that talented children from rural areas are able to compete without facing any disadvantage. Special care is taken to ensure that children from far flung areas get admission forms free of cost, without any difficulty. Sufficient publicity is done through Doordarshan, All India Radio, local newspapers, pamphlets, Vidyalaya websites and through visits of Principals and teachers of Navodaya Vidyalayas to the local schools of the district.

Eligibility Conditions and Composition of the Test

Eligibility Conditions

For All Candidates

  1.   Only candidates from the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been opened are eligible to apply for admission. However, in the district where the JNV is opened and is bifurcated at a later date, the old boundaries of the district are considered for the purpose of eligibility for admission in the JNVs. This applies to cases where new Vidyalaya has not yet been started in the newly bifurcated district .
  2.  Candidates appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class-V for the entire academic session in a Government/Government-Aided, other recognized school or ‘B’ Certificate Competency Course of National Institute of Open Schooling, in the same district where he/she seeks admission.
    A school will be deemed to have been recognized if it is declared so by the Government or by any other agency authorized on behalf of the Government. Schools, where students have obtained ‘B’ certificate under National Institute of Open Schooling should have accreditation of NIOS. A candidate must successfully complete Class-V. Actual admission in Class-VI will be subject to these conditions.
  3.  A candidate seeking admission must be within the age group of 9 to 13 years. This is applicable to candidates of all categories, including those who belong to the Scheduled Castes(SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).
  4.   A candidate claiming admission from rural quota must have studied and passed Classes- III, IV and V from a Govt./Govt. Aided/ recognised school spending one full academic session each year in a school located in a rural area.
  5.   A candidate who has studied in a school located in an urban area even for a single day of a session in any of the Classes-III, IV or V, will be considered as an Urban area candidate. Urban areas are those, which are so notified in the 2001 Census or through a subsequent Government Notification. All other areas will be considered as rural.
  6.   A candidate who has not been promoted and admitted to Class-V before 30th September, is not eligible to apply.
  7.   No candidate is eligible to appear in the JNV Selection Test for a second time, under any circumstances.

Reservation for Rural, SC/ST, Girls & Disabled Children

  1.   At least 75% of the seats in a district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas and remaining seats will be filled up from the urban areas of the district.
  2.   Reservation of seats in favour of children belonging to ScheduledCastes and Scheduled Tribes is provided in proportion to their population in the distrinct concerned provided that in no district, such reservation will be less than the national average (15% for sc and 7.5 % for ST ) but subject to maximum of 50% for both categories(SC&ST) taken together. These reservation are interchargeble and over and above the candidate selected under open merit. 1/3 of the seats are reserved for girl students. 
  3.   There is a provision for reservation of 3% seats for disabled children (i.e. Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped).
  4.  One third of the total seats are filled up by girls.
  5.   There is a provision for reservation of 3% seats for ** Divyang children (i.e.
    Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped).
  6. ** “Blindness” refers to a condition where a person suffers from any of the following
    conditions namely:-
  7. (i) Total absence of sight; or
    (ii) Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (snellen) in the better eye with
    correcting lenses; or
    (iii) Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree or worse.
    ** “Hearing Impairment” means loss of sixty decibels or more in the better ear in the
    conversational range of frequencies.
    ** “Locomotor disability” means disability of the bones joints or muscles leading to
    substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy.
    ** “Person with disability” means a person suffering from not less than forty percent
    of any disability as certified by a medical authority.

Composition of the test

The selection test will be of two-hour duration from 11:30 am to 01:30 pm and will have 3 sections with only objective type questions. There are 80 questions in all for 100 marks. 15 Minutes additional time is allowed for reading the instructions. Hence, the candidates have to report latest by 11:00 AM on 6th April 2019

In order to optimally utilise the infrastructure and staff facilities available in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, vacant seats in Class-IX are filled up through Lateral Entry Test. During the year 2016-17, Lateral Entry Test for Class-IX was conducted in 550 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

Eligibility Conditions

To appear in the Selection Test, a candidate has to fulfill the following eligibility conditions :

  •   Only those candidates who are studying Class VIII during the Academic Session 2018-19 in one of the Govt./Govt. recognized schools of the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is functioning and where admission is sought, are eligible.
  •   Candidate appearing for the admission test must qualify/ pass Class VIII in the academic session 2018-19 from a Govt./Govt. recognized school in the district where he/she is seeking admission.
  •   A candidate seeking admission must be born between 01.05.2003 and 30.04.2007 (both days inclusive). This is applicable to all categories of candidates including those who belong to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe.
  •   Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti reserves the right to refer any candidate to a MEDICAL BOARD for confirmation of the age of the candidate, in case any doubt arises about the age on the basis of certificate produced by the candidate before confirmation of admission.

 

Composition of Test for Class-IX

Admission Test consists of questions of Class-VIII standard in the following subjects.

Selection Test will consist of questions from the subjects of Mathematics, General Science, English and Hindi. Difficulty level of the test paper shall be of Class VIII.

           The test will be of objective type with 2 ½ hours duration without any break.
            Merit List will be announced as per the NVS selection criteria.

Venue and Date of the Selection Date

Selection Test for admission to Class IX will be conducted on Saturday, the 2nd February 2019 in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of concerned district/any other center allotted by NVS.

Reservation

The existing vacant seats in the SC/ST category, as notified, are reserved for the SC/ST students.

LATERAL ENTRY FOR CLASS-XI

Issue of Notification for Admission in Class-XI

The vacant seats available in each JNV is notified every year in the local newspapers by the JNV concerned of that district. The admission in Class–XI is completed by 15th July every year.

Eligibility for Admission in Class-XI

  • Students seeking admission in Class–XI should be within the age limit of 14-18 years as on 1st July, of the year of admission.
  • The candidate must have passed Class–X from a recognized school (affiliated to CBSE or any other State Education Board) of the district where the JNV is located during the academic session of the year of admission.
  • The merit list will be prepared as per marks obtained by the applicant in the Class–X Board Exam and the admission will be given as per eligibility of candidate and the seats available in the JNV concerned.
  • The candidates must have reasonable competency in English and Hindi.
