Pathanamthitta district is located in the Southern part of the state of Kerala, India. The district headquarters is in Pathanamthitta town. The district comprises of 3 municipalities, 9 blocks, 54 panchayats and 70 villages. The total population of the district approximately 1197412 as per 2011 census. The district is surrounded by Kottayam, Idukki, Alappuzha and Kollam districts. It has a border with the state of Tamil Nadu in the east.
