Konark, the Sun Temple as it is known is attributed to King Narsimha Dev-I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty about 1250CE. Dedicated to Hindu God Surya. The temple complex has an appearance of a 30 meter high chariot with immense wheels and horses, all carved from stone. The geographical location is 19 degree 53 minutes 15 seconds North and 86 degree 5 minutes 41 seconds East.
The Foundation stone of NLI was laid by Sh. S. C. Khuntia, IAS, Joint Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy in presence of Sh. Manoj Singh, IAS, Commissioner, NVS, on 30.12.2010 and the work for construction of buildings were awarded to CPWD, Bhubaneswar vide NVS, HQ. Letter no. F.2.4 (460)/ 2011/ NVS(w) dtd.22.02.2011. The construction work is completed and handed over. The total area of NLI is 2.34 acres. It took around 6 years to come to its final stage.
Since the joining of Sh. M. Mariappan, as Director of NLI, Puri the entire construction work under his direct supervision made it convenient to reach at this shape. The entire construction work is divided into 6 Blocks. To the right of the main gate lies the Institute Building, which comprises of Director’s Chamber, Co-coordinator’s Room-cum- office facing to it lies the Computer Lab. & Library. Adjacent to it is the Conference Hall and Seminar Hall all in ground floor. In the first floor lies the dining hall/Kitchen and Recreation room. There is a lawn in front of the Institute Building which attracts to the beauty of the Institute.
To the back side of Institute Building lies the Hostel and Guest Room. The Hostel comprises of 24 rooms accommodating 48 beds which are fully furnished with fixtures. The Guest house is having 04 Rooms with double bed accommodation.
Facing the hostel lies the Director’s Residence, adjacent to it lies the Type-III Block having 04 (Four) quarters & to its left lies the Type-II quarters having accommodation for four staff members.
In between the Hostel, Director’s residence and the staff quarters lies a very beautiful garden with lawn having flowering plants. The entire campus is beautified with good plantation work.
To fetch water to the entire campus a pump house is there and to provide security a security room in the main gate is provided with.
At the last but not the least the entire campus is protected due to Goddess Maa Bhagabati Devi blessing which is located in front of the NLI building, across the road.
